To actively promote gender equality and the leadership roles of FAWL’s members in the legal profession, judiciary, and community at large. To achieve these goals, FAWL will uphold the highest standard of integrity, honor, and courtesy in the legal profession, promote reform in law, and facilitate administration of justice.
Liz is a proud “double Gator,” having earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida, where she served on the editorial board of the UF Law Review — an honor reserved for top law students recognized for exceptional academic achievement and legal writing. During law school, she interned at the nation’s largest environmental law firm, the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., reflecting an early interest in sophisticated and complex areas of law. After clerking at the Fourth District Court of Appeal and practicing as a construction and commercial litigator, Liz joined the County Attorney’s Office.
The County Attorney’s Office provides legal counsel on all matters related to the operation of the County to the Board of County Commissioners, all County Departments/Divisions, regulatory boards and advisory boards. Similar to the many hats an in-house attorney wears, Liz’s diverse transactional practice includes land development, transportation and real estate law, constitutional and tax law, ethics law, public procurement, and tourism development matters.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Liz is committed to creating opportunities for others and improving the legal profession. She launched the award-winning “Coffee and Bagels with Judges” when she chaired the Palm Beach County Bar Association Judicial Relations Committee, and a unique road to the bench seminar, featuring the General Counsel to 3 Florida Governors — including a panelist who now serves as Justice Meredith Sasso on the Florida Supreme Court. Chief U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Florida had previously appointed Liz to the Federal Bench Bar Committee, and she currently serves on the Florida Bar’s Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee. She was recognized for her leadership and service with the FAWL Leader in the Law Award.
Liz is married to another attorney, Ron Herman, who manages a successful white-collar criminal defense firm. Outside of practicing law or serving on various boards and committees, you can find the Hermans on the Peloton leaderboard or out of town, exploring various destinations.
